Brand new to Portobello is the Penny Market, offering hand-picked delicious foods and artisan products from all across London every Saturday. For every two pennies made, one is given to local charities, so this colourful market feeds not only your tummy but also your soul. The Penny Market is a fun and giving way to spend your Saturdays.

Set up by Notting Hill resident Taz Fustok in collaboration with local charities Goldfinger Factory, Somewhere To, Delgarno Trust and students from local colleges as well as the guidance and support of many RBKC councilors and the wisdom of the Portobello and Golborne Market Trading office, this is an initiative that hopes to really make a difference to the area and help up-and-coming businesses and young entrepreneurs.

The Penny Market was built by wonderful carpenters at Goldfinger Factory using reclaimed materials donated by the Science Museum and local resident Lucy Patterson sewed the beautifully bright canvas awnings to reflect the colours of the Notting Hill buildings. The market’s ethical nature is seen from the very bones of the stalls through to health-conscious foods and the wide spectrum of charities that will be helped with the proceeds.

The market comprises 17 stalls, three of which will belong to local businesses, Lowry & Baker, La Salumeria and Moroccan Cafe, which shows a real community spirit.

Current traders include: Artisan Bakery,The Borough Cheese Company, Mama Leoni’s, Mighty Green, Wild Hives, Saboon Allee, Ted’s Veg, Arbroath Fish, Manola, Lulin’s Tea, Appetite London.

The Penny Market takes place every Saturday, from 9am to 6pm, on the stretch of Portobello Road between Golborne Road and Bonchurch Road
