Macclesfield is known as Treacletown, referring to the centuries old accident when a horse drawn wagon overturned, spilling its cargo of treacle onto the cobbles. The Treacle Market is a chance to find gorgeous, unusual things on Macclesfield’s streets once again.

On the last Sunday of the month (except December when it’s the one before Christmas) bring a basket and stock up on exceptional, locally produced beers, juices, artisan bread, cakes, meats, pates, vegetables, gluten free and foraged foods, award winning pies, chutneys and other delicious provisions. Source unique artworks, antiques, books, vintage home wares, jewellery and crafts from local makers on 150 + stalls in the handsome old cobbled marketplace and streets around.

Treacle is the perfect place to spend a few hours and meet up with friends, browse the stalls and listen to live music. When the sun is out, choose delicious street food for lunch at the Treacle tables or pavement cafes, or throw down a picnic rug on the church lawns.

In the run up to Christmas we are the place for unique and unusual gifts, roast chestnuts, brass bands and carol singers, Christmas shopping the way it should be!

Treacle was named as one of the Top Ten UK Farmers Markets by The Independent 2013 and shortlisted for the BBC Food and Farming Awards -Best Food Market 2012 .
