MULTI award winning Ashton Market has been showcased to help the raise the profile of markets nationally.
The National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) chose Ashton for the launch of its Great British Market Awards 2015. The accolade follows Ashton Market’s success in scooping the treble having been named Britain’s Favourite Market, the UK’s Greenest Market and winning the Market Team of the Year title earlier this year. During their visit, officials from NABMA toured the outdoor market and the market hall, looked at plans to redesign the market square and met with traders.
Tameside Council Deputy Executive Leader Cllr John Taylor, who is responsible for markets, said:
“We are delighted Ashton Market is being highlighted as an example for others to aspire to. We know Ashton Market has a strong local following but it is fantastic to also receive the seal of approval from national industry experts who recognise the hard work of traders and staff who are dedicated to the ongoing and future success of the market. “This work continues with the proposed outdoor market makeover and, more imminently, the exciting plans for Tameside Christmas Market. More generally, all our town centres are working hard and planning special events, activities and offers to broaden their appeal to visitors. A huge thank you to everyone for shopping local.”
