Bolton Market will open on Christmas Eve to help shoppers buy their last minute festive food. The market, on Ashburner Street, will be open on Christmas Eve, which falls on Sunday – a day when the market is usually shut.
By the time families are settling down to their dinner on Christmas Day, stallholders are predicted to have sold up to 7,000 turkeys, 4,00
0 mince pies and three tonnes of sprouts.
The market is home to eight stalls selling turkeys, seven greengrocers, two cheese stalls, two florists, one card shop plus last minute gifts galore. It will be open from 9am to 5pm December 21, 22 and 23 and 9am until 4pm on Christmas Eve. A host of entertainment has also been organised in the run-up to Christmas in the indoor Lifestyle Hall. Father Christmas will be stopping by on December 16, 23 and Christmas Eve from 11am to 4pm. Cost is £1.50 per child. On December 16, there will be free magic shows for all the family at 11.30am and 1pm and free face painting 11am to 3pm.
Children can join in a free cookery workshop on December 23, from 11am to 3pm. Leader of Bolton, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: “The countdown to Christmas is well and truly on and Bolton Market has everything you might need – all under one roof.
“The choice and quality of the fresh foods is unbeatable and everything you might need from sprouts, to turkeys or ducks and geese is available. “The produce is great value for money and as well as our excellent food halls, shoppers can also pick up last minute Christmas gifts and stocking fillers, and enjoy some of the entertainment and family fun we have organised.”
