The first ever Enfield Market Beach was officially opened on Thursday 21st July. The Beach occupies more than 100 square metres of the Market Place and consists of 20 tonnes of sand, deckchairs, Tiki Huts, buckets and spades and its very own palm tree!

The Beach has been brought to Enfield Town by the Old Enfield Charitable Trust who are responsible for the management of Enfield Market. The Beach is open every day until Saturday 30th July with the Market running alongside Thursday to Saturday. From Sunday 24th until Wednesday 27th a Fun Fair has been set up to provide even more fun for those visiting Enfield Town centre. During this time the Old Enfield Charitable Trust have facilitated two organised visits to the Fun Fair for groups of children from local organisations Cheviots Childrens Disability Service and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. The children will be treated to free rides on the Fun Fair courtesy of local showman Robert Cogger and they will also receive a goody bag from Enfield department store PEARSONS.

Robert Cogger of Cogger Amusements said
“It’s great to be part of this fantastic event in the heart of Enfield. We hope the children from Cheviots and Noah’s Ark enjoy their time at the Fun Fair.”

Wendy Rayner of Pearsons Department Store added ‘we are delighted to be involved with the Enfield Charitable Trust and the Beach Event. We hope that all those attending will enjoy our activities which range from mini-makeovers and skincare advise from the cosmetics team, to activities for children with our toy department and exciting demonstrations to come from our housewares team. We also look forward to welcoming Cheviots and Noah’s Ark to our hut and the Beach. We are proud to continue to forge and further develop out links with the local community. Huge congratulations to everyone in delivering a fantastic fun event.’

Initial response to the Beach has been encouraging from both customers and traders;
Sean Grant, who operates Sugar Dumplin a Caribbean street food stall at Enfield Market is running a Tiki Hut on the Beach selling Fresh Juice and sliced coconuts, said
“It’s been great to be part of the Beach event. We hope to see lots of happy customers over the next week or so.”

Glen Norman from Glens Fruit and Veg which is open every day on Enfield Market said ‘The Beach is a great bit of fun for the Market. We are trying to do our bit for the Beach so we’ve got plenty of soft fruits available and some exotic fruits for all our customers  to enjoy.’

Richard Landsberg from The Watch Stall said ‘The Beach is a great idea and we hope everyone who visits has an enjoyable time, some fun and takes the opportunity to have a look around the Market whilst they are here’

Carmelo Mariosa from Carmelo Cucina Italiana would like to add he is pleased The Trust has put on such an event for the community and is proud to be a part of it.

The Beach has also been successful in encouraging some positive collaboration between various businesses in Enfield Town and Susie Dawson from Palace Exchange and Gardens, with the Old Enfield Charitable Trust pulling things together through their Management Team.

Jim Eustance, Trustee and chair of Enfield Market Committee said
“The Beach is a lovely event and whilst we hope it raises awareness of Enfield Market it is really encouraging to be part of the partnership working that has taken place to bring the Beach to Enfield. It just shows what can be achieved through a collaborative approach. We hope now that Enfield residents and others will take the opportunity to visit and enjoy what’s on offer at our historic Market Place.”
