A fabulous celebration event of Northampton’ s market is taking place later this month (25 July) as the town plays host to the National Market Traders’ Federation Making Markets Matter roadshow.

Northampton is one of only six venues chosen to host the roadshow in 2015 and the organisers are promising a festival atmosphere with plenty of activities, games, sideshows, give-aways and prize competitions to entertain the crowds.

A professional chef will be demonstrating how to create delicious dishes using fresh market produce and as always there will be market stalls selling their traditional mix of fresh produce, continental foods, arts and crafts, clothing, flowers and household goods.

The aims of the roadshow are to raise public awareness of the great benefits of market shopping, encourage more shoppers to shop local and support their local market and attract new traders.  The market team will be on hand to talk to budding entrepreneurs considering becoming a market stallholder.

Councillor Jonathan Nunn, Northampton Borough Council assistant cabinet member for regeneration, enterprise and planning, said:
“Making Markets Matter is a great campaign that demonstrates the importance of local markets, both to our economy and our sense of community.  The roadshow promises to be a fun day for all the family and a busy one for the traders.  There will be plenty of entertainment and I really hope people will come along and join in the celebration.”

The Making Markets Matter roadshow is at the Market Square in Northampton on Saturday 25 July from 10am to 3.30pm.  The market trades Tuesday to Saturday every week, with fruit and veg stalls open on Mondays.
