A Council contract to operate street markets in Warwick and Kenilworth have been won by a family business based in Leamington, and took over the running from 1st February 2015.

CJ’s Events Warwickshire in Park Street is run by John Walker, his partner Carol Young, son Jamie Walker, and stepson John Young. The markets involve the running of Warwick Market in The Square on Saturdays and the smaller Kenilworth Market at Abbey End in Kenilworth on Thursdays, but also include the farmers markets in Warwick & Leamington.

David Butler, Warwick District Councils business manager, said that when the contact came up for renewal the Leamington firm was among those submitting a tender. Along with the previous operator’s E.G. Skett and Co, the Leamington team was then invited to make a personal presentation in from of the district councils Reference Group, who were responsible for the final decision.

Mr Butler said:
“CJ’s Events Warwickshire impressed the Reference Group with their clear and ambitious vision for consolidating, growing and promoting the markets in the district. We look forward to working with them”.

The family particularly impressed the council with their firm plans to work with the local community and charity groups.

Mr Walker said:
“Our full plans will be revealed during our launch event at Easter but we are very pleased to have won the contact and the confidence of the district council”.

The fact Jamie Walker helped to re-launch Leamington Carnival last year after an 18 year gap would have certainly added the firms profile in the area.
