Christmas shoppers will take a step back in time when the free Victorian Christmas Weekend returns to Oldham town centre on Saturday and Sunday (December 20 and 21).

Look out for the big fairground carousel, as well as enjoying free roasted chestnuts, mulled wine (non-alcoholic) and traditional games such as a coconut shy.

Look out for the Victorian jugglers, tap dancing turkeys, Dickensian performers and Festive Foxley’s magical penny farthing.

Other attractions throughout the weekend include festive fun in Tommyfield Market from 11am until 3pm. There will children’s face painting and balloon modelling all weekend.

Oldham Christmas Market 2Councillor Jean Stretton, Oldham Council’s Cabinet Member for Town Centres, Culture and Tourism, said:
“The Victorian Weekend fills the high street with traditional, seasonal cheer and as ever the big carousel is a real treat for families.”

“When you combine two days of free entertainment and parking with a great range of shops that means Oldham town centre is the place to visit this weekend.”

The Victorian Christmas Weekend has been organised by the Oldham Town Centre Business Partnership and is the final event of the town centre Christmas programme this year.

Shoppers can enjoy free parking for three hours at all Oldham Council car parks at weekend. But don’t forget – you must take a ticket from the machine and display it in your vehicle.
